The Markson Concert Series is back again in 2019 starting from 24 April 2019, featuring seven performances by both internationally renowned and rising classical and contemporary piano artists in the setting of St Mary Magdalene Church in London.
Markson Pianos hosts a wide range of musical events called the Markson Pianos Concert Series which is held annually at St Mary Magdalene Church in London.
Come and enjoy superb classical and contemporary music performances from some of the most prestigious musicians. Attendees will get a glass of wine and also have the opportunity to meet the artists afterwards. This year, the concert series has no admission or ticket charge and is free entry for all attendees.

#1 – Emmanuel Bach (Violin) & Jenny Stern (Piano)

Emmanuel Bach is a concert violinist based in the UK who currently leads the Bach String Quartet. Bach has performed at numerous prestigious venues including Wigmore Hall, St Martin-in-the-Fields, and St James’s Piccadilly. He obtained a double first in music from Magdalen College and earned a Masters at the Royal College of Music.
Jenny Stern has performed extensively throughout the UK and has an equally impressive musical career as a soloist and chamber musician. Stern earned a Masters in her home country of South Africa. Upon graduating, she was awarded the Emma Smith Overseas Scholarship, which has enabled her to return to London.

#2 – Atsuko Kawakami

Atsuko Kawakami was born in Sapporo, Japan, and began her musical career at the age of three when she started learning the piano. As a child, Kawakami won numerous prizes in the prestigious PTNA (Piano Teachers National Association) competitions.
She later studied at the Tokyo College of Music and graduated with honours from the Royal Academy of Music in London. She completed her studies with Martino Tirimo – a Cypriot classical pianist – at Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance in London.
Kawakami has performed extensively in numerous concerts with many well-known violinists, cellists, flutists, and singers. The Arts Desk once described her as a ‘first-class musician’.
She will be performing the following pieces:

#3 – Linda Ang and Robert Stoodley

Linda Ang is a Singapore-born pianist who has been awarded the Royal-Overseas League Accompanist for her performances. She also won the Internationales Jeunesses Musicales Competition as a harpsichordist of the Guildhall String Ensemble in Belgrade. Ang has released seven CDs and been featured in the Straits Times – an English newspaper based in Singapore.
Robert Stoodley studied the piano with Dorothea Law. He later obtained performing and teaching diplomas at the Royal College of Music and Royal Academy of Music in London. Stoodley and Ang married in 2008 and created ‘Piano A Deux’, which was featured on the show Britain’s Got Talent. Together they have played extensively in venues around the world.

#4 – Marc Verter

Marc Verter is an accomplished pianist, song accompanist, and concert producer. Verter was the artistic director at the Chelsea Schubert Festival for five years. He’s now on the staff of the Vocal Department at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, where he is highly sought after as a vocal coach.
Verter performs regularly with singers in the UK and abroad in prestigious venues such as Wigmore Hall, Sheffield University, Birmingham University, Oxford Lieder Festival, and St Martin-in-the-Fields.

#5 – Duo Seula

Duo Seula is comprised of two award-winning musicians – Abigail Health (clarinet) and Rachael Ueckermann (piano). Both have studied at some of London’s prestigious music colleges and both have earned their Master’s Degree in Music Performance. Together the duo has played alongside the London Symphony Orchestra and wedding venues across the city.
The name was inspired the meaning of ‘Seula’, a Latin word that translates to ‘little she-bear’. Health and Ueckermann loved the powerful and captivating imagery of this simple word and decided to name themselves after it.

#6 – John Thwaites (Piano) Alexander Baillie (Cello)

John Thwaites is a founding member of the Primrose Piano Quartet and is well known for his work with some of the most renowned cellists in the world. Thwaites regularly performs in festivals across Europe, and has released a number of critically acclaimed recordings featuring his collaborations. He’s now course director of the Cadenza International Summer Music School and head of keyboard studies at Birmingham Conservatoire.
Alexander Baillie has been playing music at the age of 12 and has gone on to study at London’s Royal College of Music. Since then he has performed in many top orchestras and has appeared regularly as a cello soloist. Baillie is currently professor of cello at Hochschule für Künste, Bremen in Germany.

#7 – Lola Perrin

Lola Perrin is an American composer and pianist with jazz influences. Her debut album Fragile Light was released in 2006. She was approached by the London Design Museum for a new commission titled Suite VII for Piano & Correspondent, which she performed live. Perrin regularly collaborates with other musicians and artists.
Perrin is also the founding member of ClimateKeys, a global initiative to encourage more musicians to participate in efforts to address global warming. She will be playing ‘Caterpillar’.
