A bit on Bentley pianos

The Bentley Piano Company traces its origins back to 1906 when it was founded in London by Douglas Grover, the third generation of the Grover family of piano makers. The company’s roots can be traced to 1830, with Grover & Grover pianos being produced by his father and grandfather. In 1911, Douglas relocated the business to Woodchester Mills in the Cotswolds, a site rich in historical significance. By the 1920s, production expanded, and in the 1930s, Bentley pianos became highly successful. The company became self-sufficient, producing its own piano parts. During World War II, production shifted to aircraft components, and after the war, Bentley pianos gained international recognition. The company continued to innovate and grow, receiving the MBE in 1969 for significant contributions to exports. In the 1980s, Bentley pianos were known for their refined craftsmanship, blending tradition with modern techniques. Despite setbacks like fires and ownership changes, Bentley pianos have remained a symbol of quality and musical heritage. In 2001, Bentley returned to Woodchester Mills under the British Piano Manufacturing Company, before the brand was acquired by InterMusic in 2003.
